On the morning of 12th December, the Club, together with members of the Methodist Church of Kuantan, visited an Orang Asli Settlement near Sri Jaya in Pahang. The purpose of the visit was to provide eye sight testing for the inhabitants of the Settlement as well as to give a health awareness talk to them.
For the Project, the Club took along the Lions Club’s Mobile Eye Unit. The Mobile Eye Unit was for the use of the medical personnel from Hospital Tengku Ampuan Afzan (HTAA), who has kindly took time out to help out the Club to ensure the success of the Project.
During our time at the Settlement, the doctors managed to test the visions of 30 people. It was discovered that 6 of those people require spectacles while 4 has to be referred to HTAA for having either cataract, glaucoma or diabetic retinopathy.
The Club will follow up on those people that require spectacles and those who may require operations for their eye sight.
After the eye tests, the doctors in attendance gave a talk on healthy living and the Club also distributed out health awareness brochures to the people.
