Visit to Old Folks Home


The Lions Club of Kuantan City, in a joint project with the Lions Club of Pekan Nanas, visited an old folks home in Jabor on 10 August 2014.  The two clubs donated foodstuff and adult diapers to the home and interacted with the inmates of the home.  The two clubs also provided lunch for them.

Installation Night 2014-15

The Lions Clubs of Zone 4, namely Lions Club of Kuantan, Indera Mahkota & Kuantan City had their Joint Presidents' and Boards of Directors Installation Night on 9 August 2014. 
 
Guest of Honour was the District Governor of District 308 B1, Lion Lim Hoe Guan.  He was accompanied by his wife Lion Betty, 1st Vice District Governor, Lion Sashikala, 2nd Vice District Governor Lion Datuk L Krisnan and Council Chairman, Lion Datuk Yeow Wah Chin. 
 
The Zone also invited a special guest, the OCPD of Kuantan ASP Abdul Aziz Salleh, who was very gracious to attend the dinner despite his busy schedule.

Road Safety Campaign with PDRM


In conjunction with the "balik kampong" exodus for Hari Raya Puasa Aidil Fitri on 28 & 29 July 2014, the Lions Club of Indera Mahkota and the Lions Club of Kuantan City conducted a road safety campaign on the morning of 26 August 2014. 

The campaign was undertaken together with the local police, Polis DiRaja Malaysia (PDRM) at the 3rd mile of the Kuantan to Gambang highway.  Goodie bags was also given out to travellers.

Road Safety Campaign with PDRM

The Lions Club of Kuantan City, together with the Lions Club of Kuantan and the Lions Club of Indera Mahkota undertook a road safety campaign with Polis DiRaja Malaysia (PDRM) on 3 August 2013. 
 
The campaign was held in conjunction with the "balik kampung" exodus for Hari Raya Aidil Fitri on 8 & 9 August. 
 
Goodie bags were handed out by Lion members to those going back to their hometowns for their Hari Raya celebrations.

Lou Sang Fund Raising Dinner 2013


The Lions Club of Kuantan City recently organised a Lou Sang Fund Raising Dinner to celebrate the coming Chinese New Year (the Year of the Snake which starts on 10th February 2013).  The dinner was held on 31st January 2013 at the Silk Ballroom, Hotel Zenith Kuantan. 
 
The Guest of Honour for the dinner was ADUN for Teruntum, YB Dato' Chang Hong Seong and the Special Guest was our Lions District Governor Lion Chan Hoi. 
 
The dinner was a success with 19 tables whereby entertainment was provided topped off with a lucky draw at the end of the night.  We thank all who supported and came to our fund raising dinner.

Peace Poster Competition

The annual Peace Poster Competition was held on 21st October 2012 at Sekolah Kebangsaan Bukit Sekilau.  The competition was organised by the three Lions Clubs within Zone 3, namely Lions Club of Kuantan, Lions Club of Indera Mahkota and Lions Club of Kuantan City.

The Lions Club of Kuantan City, together with Lions Club of Indera Mahkota, undertook a Eye Screening, Diabetes Awareness & Organ Pledge Campaign at the Capital Mall Kuantan on 30th September 2012.

Reading Action Programme at PDK Tunas Sri Teruntum


One of the Lions Club International's core aim this year is to promote reading through its Reading Action Programmes.  In conjunction with this, the Club conducted a reading programme at the Pemulihan Dalam Komuniti (PDK) Tunas Sri Teruntum, a centre for disabled children.  The reading programme was held on 28th August 2012.  Lunch was also provided by the Club in the form of KFC meals.

Road Safety Project with PDRM

The Lions Club of Kuantan City and Lions Club of Indera Mahkota held a joint road safety project on 18th August 2012 together with Polis DiRaja Malaysia (PDRM) in conjunction with the Hari Raya Aidil Fitri "balik kampung" exodus.  The safety campaign was held at Jalan Bukit Ubi whereby safety stickers and goodies were distributed to travellers out of Kuantan.

Sight First - Student undergoes cataract operation

The Lions Club of Kuantan City has on 20th December 2011 visited a student, Tho Sze Cheh, who underwent a successful cataract operation on the same day.  The Form 1 student has had a cataract operation done one one of his eyes about two years back and has now undertook another operation on his other eye.  The lens for both eyes were sponsored by the Club.

Premier Show - Arthur Christmas

The Lions Club of Kuantan City organised a premier screening of the movie Arthur Christmas on 26th November 2011.  The premier was held at Golden Screen Cinemas at the East Coast Mall Kuantan.  The event was a success and those in attendance enjoyed the movie which was shown four days in advance of its general release in Malaysia. 

In conjunction with the screening, the Club also invited children from Rumah Kebajikan Warisan Setia Damai to the screening which they enjoyed thoroughly.  After the movie, they were also treated to a meal at KFC.

Another Visit to Rumah Kebajikan Warisan Setia Damai

The Club made another visit to Rumah Kebajikan Warisan Setia Damai on 27th June 2011.  On the visit this time around, the Members arrived bearing beddings, stationeries and cupboards for the home.  The children were happy and surprised to see us and chatted with us before going back to their studies.

Visit to Rumah Kebajikan Warisan Setia Damai

The Lions Club of Kuantan City visited Rumah Kebajikan Warisan Setia Damai, an Orang Asli orphanage near Kuantan on 18 June 2011.  The orphanage has around 15 children under care.  Members of the Club mingled with the children and enquired about the well being of the orphanage.  It was discovered that the orphanage does not have any official support and that they require support from the public.  Of immediate need are beddings and stationeries which the Club has agreed to donate.

"Loh Sang" Fund Raising Dinner

The 2011 “Loh Sang” Dinner organised by the Lions Club of Kuantan City to raise funds in aid of the Lions Education Foundation Fund received a surge of contributions from the Kuantan Community who rose to the occasion by doing their bit for the poor during the Chinese New Year season. The Dinner held at the Astana Ballroom of the M.S. Garden Hotel was graced by Guest of Honour, YB Chang Hong Seong, ADUN Kawasan Teruntum and his Lady, Mdm Khoo Mui Ling, together with Special Guest, District Governor 308-B1 Lion Dato’ Yeow Wah Chin and his Lady, Datin Genevieve.

Visit to PDK Tunas Sri Teruntum

On 18th January 2011, the Lions of Kuantan City paid a visit to the handicapped students at Pusat Pemulihan Dalam Komuniti (PDK) Tunas Sri Teruntum at Jalan Mat Kilau in Kuantan. The students were treated to Kentucky fried chicken during recess and later ang pows were handed out to the students and staff of the Centre in conjunction with the upcoming Lunar New Year.

Presentation of Handicapped Motorcycle

Mathavan a/l Periannen who lives along the Jalan Gambang Highway relies on his motorcycle for his livelihood.  As he does not have the use of his legs, his motorcycle has been modified so that it can be operated using his hands only. 

He collects cardboard cartons for sale which he carries on the side car attached to his motorcycle.  The motorcycle which he was using was very old and gave him quite a bit of trouble.

Turtle Conservation

On 25th July 2010, the Lions Club of Indera Mahkota and the Lions Club of Kuantan City jointly adopted 30 baby turtles at the Turtle Sanctuary in Cherating Pahang. The cost of adopting these baby turtles is RM600.00 which is used by the caretakers to purchase food pellets to supplement the diet of the babies. The idea and hope is that after a period of approximately 5 months on a balanced and nutritious diet, these baby turtles would be stronger and larger and better able to survive the perils of the sea. 

On 18th December 2010, these wards of the Lions Club of Indera Mahkota and the Lions Club of Kuantan City were ready to be released into the sea. At approximately 5.00 pm, members from both Clubs together with their families and also members of the Leo Club of Kuantan City gathered on the beach at the Turtle Sanctuary in Cherating to witness the journey of the baby turtles to the sea. The Project lasted 3 hours during which time the baby turtles gradually crawled towards the South China Sea and disappeared into the waters.

Sight First - Eye testing for Sungai Lembing residents

The Lions of Indera Mahkota and Kuantan City once again rose to the challenge of Hellen Keller made in 1925 to the Lions Clubs International to become “knights of the blind in the crusade against darkness”.

At the premises of the Persatuan Kwong Siew in Sungai Lembing recently, the Lions of these two clubs jointly organised a half day eye screening and sight conservation exercise with the valuable assistance and input of 2 doctors and 8 medical officers/ophthalmologists/nurses from Hospital Tengku Ampuan Afzan (HTAA) led by Dr. Rohana Bt Ab Rashid. The Lions Sight First Mobile Eye Van from The Lions Eye Clinic in Kuala Lumpur equipped with eye screening instruments, namely 2 units of Auto Refractometer, a Lensmeter, a Computerized Tonometer, and a Light Boxeye was on hand to provide the hospital staff with the necessary equipment for carrying out tests on the participants. Members of the Lions Club of Indera Mahkota and Lions Club of Kuantan City assisted the staff of HTAA by providing translation services for the elderly.

Blood Donation & Organ Pledge Drive

On 31st October 2010, the Lions Club of Kuantan City jointly organised a blood and organ donation drive with Persatuan Kebajikan Chee Siew Shan Ser Kuantan Pahang, Persatuan Kesenian Opera Cina Kuantan Pahang and Ho Sheng Musical Society with the aim of replenishing the Hospital Tengku Ampuan Afzan Blood Bank.

The event which took place at Kuantan Parade from 9.30 am to 3.30 pm was officially launched by Teruntum Assemblyman YB Chang Hong Seong who in his speech encouraged more such activity and social responsibility.

Approximately 180 people of all races and from all walks of life registered for the blood donation exercise which resulted in the collection of 125 bags of blood. There were also 7 people who pledged to donate their organs.

Blood Donation & Organ Pledge Drive at Kuantan Parade

Lions Club of Kuantan City will be organising a Blood Donation and Organ Pledge Drive at Kuantan Parade Shopping Complex, Kuantan on Sunday, 21st October 2010. 

The campaign will be conducted between 10.00 am and 3.30 pm at the Main Concourse of the mall.
