On 25th July 2010, the Lions Club of Indera Mahkota and the Lions Club of Kuantan City jointly adopted 30 baby turtles at the Turtle Sanctuary in Cherating Pahang. The cost of adopting these baby turtles is RM600.00 which is used by the caretakers to purchase food pellets to supplement the diet of the babies. The idea and hope is that after a period of approximately 5 months on a balanced and nutritious diet, these baby turtles would be stronger and larger and better able to survive the perils of the sea.
On 18th December 2010, these wards of the Lions Club of Indera Mahkota and the Lions Club of Kuantan City were ready to be released into the sea. At approximately 5.00 pm, members from both Clubs together with their families and also members of the Leo Club of Kuantan City gathered on the beach at the Turtle Sanctuary in Cherating to witness the journey of the baby turtles to the sea. The Project lasted 3 hours during which time the baby turtles gradually crawled towards the South China Sea and disappeared into the waters.
