X'mas Visit to a Mentally Handicapped Home



In a joint-project with the Omega Leos Club, LC Kuantan City made a Christmas visit to a mentally handicapped home in Jalan Alor Akar, Kuantan.
The visit was organised for the morning of 23rd of December to bring some Christmas cheer to the residents of the home.

The Omega Leos brought along food and Christmas presents for the residents while LC Kuantan City presented them with new t-shirts and towels.

A good time was had by all as the Members of the Leos Club and Lions Club played and talked to the residents.

Visit to Orang Asli Settlement


On the morning of 12th December, the Club, together with members of the Methodist Church of Kuantan, visited an Orang Asli Settlement near Sri Jaya in Pahang. The purpose of the visit was to provide eye sight testing for the inhabitants of the Settlement as well as to give a health awareness talk to them.

For the Project, the Club took along the Lions Club’s Mobile Eye Unit. The Mobile Eye Unit was for the use of the medical personnel from Hospital Tengku Ampuan Afzan (HTAA), who has kindly took time out to help out the Club to ensure the success of the Project.

The Gift of Sight


LC Kuantan City has just sponsored the purchase of a set of lens for Tho Sze Cheh, a primary school student in Taman Tas who has congenital cataract. He was in urgent need of a cataract operation but was financially contrained from doing so as his father recently passed away.

With the sponsorship of the lens, eye surgeon Dr Vasanth from the Hospital Tengku Ampuan Afzan was able to successfully carry out the cataract operation on 24th November.

We visited the patient on the evening after the operation and spoke to him and his mother who was present at the hospital.

Blood Donation Drive @ HTAA Kuantan


LC Kuantan City undertook its second Blood Donation Project for the fiscal year on 22nd November. The Project was organised in a joint-venture with several organisations, namely Lembaga Pelawat Hospital Tengku Ampuan Afzan (HTAA), Tzu Chi, Kolej Shahputra and Badan Nadwah Islamiah.

In conjunction with the blood donation drive, there was also an organ pledge drive, health screening, anti-smoking campaign and health awareness campaign.

Despite the fact that the Project was held at HTAA and the fact that it rained the whole day of event, the Project was a success with hundreds of people coming in to donate blood and take advantage of the free health screening. ADUN for Teruntum, YB Chang Hong Seong, was also on hand to provide support for the event.

2nd Blood Donation Campaign on 22nd November


LC Kuantan City will be co-organising another Blood Donation Drive, this time at Hospital Tengku Ampuan Afzan (HTAA), Kuantan on 22nd November. The event is organised jointly with Lembaga Pelawat HTAA and several other organisations including Kolej Shahputra,Tzu Chi, Badan Nadwah Islamiah and Tabung Darah, with valuable help coming from HTAA personnel as well.

In conjunction with the Blood Donation Drive, there will also be an Organ Pledge Drive, Anti-Smoking Campaign and Health Awareness Exhibition. The event starts at 9.00 am.

To promote the event, a press conference was held on 11th November, with support coming from YB Chang Hong Seong, the ADUN for Teruntum.

Blood Donation Drive @ Kuantan Parade


On 18th October, LC Kuantan City undertook its first Blood Donation Project for the year.

The Blood Donation Drive was organised in a joint-venture with Soka Gakkai Malaysia (SGM), Kuantan Chapter and took place at the Kuantan Parade shopping complex.

Members of our Club and SGM were on hand on the day to canvass for donors and to provide goody bags for the donors. Our Omega Leos were also on hand to help in the event.

The Project was a success, with 148 bags of blood collected from the public. The generosity of the public was very much appreciated, especially from the seasoned donors.

A big thank you is also in order to the medical personnel, without whose help, this project would not have been able to be carried out.

Visit to PDK Tunas Sri Teruntum


LC Kuantan City was invited to a Hari Raya gathering at Pusat Pemulihan Dalam Komuniti Tunas Sri Teruntum, a home for handicapped children, on 12th October.

Members of our Club were in attendance as were members of LC Kuantan. YB Chang Hong Seong, the ADUN for Teruntum was also present to give out Hari Raya goodies.

The gathering was a fun one with plenty of food and entertainment (via the karaoke machine). The children at the centre had a fun time.

Peace Poster Competition - "The Power of Peace"

The annual Peace Poster Competition was held at SRJK (C) Pei Chai, Kuantan on 4th October. The theme this year for the competition was “The Power of Peace”.

This year the competition was organised at the Zone 3 level, to avoid duplication between Clubs in Kuantan. Participating Clubs were LC Kuantan, LC Indera Mahkota and LC Kuantan City.

The Competition was a success, with 56 students from the various schools in the Kuantan District participating, Competition this year was keen with very good artwork from the competing students. Judging was a challenge given the keen competition.

The winner of the competition was Lai Xiao Qing from SRJK (C) Pei Chai. The 1st runners-up was Chee Yee Hui from SMK Semambu, and the 2nd runners-up was Chin Yee Xin from SRJK Pei Chai. Prizes were also given for 12 other winning entries.

The winner (pictured above) took home RM200 while the runners-up took home RM150 and RM100. The 12 other prize winners took home RM50 each.

We say a big thank you to the judges who donated their time to judge at our Peace Poster Competition. A word of thanks is also given to LC Kuantan City’s Omega Leos who helped with the proceedings.

Moonlight And Lanterns By The Sea


With this year’s Mooncake Festival falling on a weekend (3rd October), our Omega Leos took the opportunity to organise a Mooncake Festival Fellowship at Teluk Cempedak, Kuantan. The Omega Leos invited Members of our Club and our family members to celebrate the Festival.

A fun time was had by all present in the brightly moon lit night. Enjoying the Festival the most were the children who played with their lanterns by the beach.

Our President, Ln Alice Chow sponsored mats for the fellowship while Ln Wendy Yap sponsored lanterns and candles for the children.

Mooncake Making Winner!!

Our Omega Leo Club Members participated in a Mooncake Making Competition at the East Coast Mall, Kuantan on the 27th September.

Prior to the competition, the participating Omega Leos, together with AFS students were taught the art of moocake making by our new Member, Lion Thoe Yoke Chan at her house the previous day.

Armed with newly acquired skills, one of our Omega Leos won the consolation prize at the Mooncake Making Competition.

Have Wheels Will Travel

On 21 September, LC Kuantan City, together with LC Indera Mahkota, donated a wheelchair to Mr Madhadan, a disabled person whose old wheelchair has been rendered unusable. While presenting the wheelchair to Mr Madhadan, LC Kuantan City also took the opportunity to provide him with some foodstuff. Members of the Club spent some time with Mr Madhadan who was pleased with the donations.

Hari Raya Celebrations!!!

Our Member, Ln Mahmud Mohamed, invited fellow Lions to his Hari Raya Open House on the first day of Raya which fell on 20 September. A number of Lions from our Club as well as from LC Indera Mahkota attended the Open House, including two student exchange students from China and Germany.

"Loving Sunday" Visit to Pantai Selamat Nursing Home

The Lions Clubs (LCs) of Zone 3 made a visit to Pantai Selamat Nursing Home in Jalan Alor Akar, Kuantan under the monthly “Loving Sunday” Project on 13th September.


Members from all four LCs under the zone, namely LCs of Kuantan, Kuantan Central, Kuantan City and Indera Mahkota, were present to bring cheer to the patients at the Home.

Also present was the Member of Parliament for Kuantan, YB Fuziah Salleh.

Lion members spent about an hour at the Home chatting to the patients and enquiring about their needs. Fellow Lions also brought food for them.

Wendy Goes To Australia

Our Member Lion Wendy Yap was in Australia in August and she met up with Lions from Lions Club of Forrest Lake in Brisbane on the 23rd.

Forrest Lake was holding a charity drive on the day by having a food fair. Lion Wendy took the opportunity to help out our fellow Lions there.

2009/2010 BOD Installation

The Installation of our new President and Board of Directors took place in Restaurant Mexica, Kuantan on the 21st of August. The event, which is a joint-installation with Indera Mahkota, saw the attendance of Lions from various Clubs in District 308-B1.

The Guest of Honour for our Installation was our District Governor, Datuk Danny Ooi who was accompanied by various members of his Cabinet.

And in conjunction with the Installation, five new members were also inducted into our Club. We take this opportunity to welcome our new Members to the Club and welcome their active contribution to the Club as well.

Kuantan Welcomes Our YE


On a hot afternoon on the 12th of August, the Lions Clubs of Kuantan City and Indera Mahkota made its way to the Kuantan Bus Terminal to welcome five youth exchanges (YE) arriving from Kuala Lumpur.

The YEs were from Finland (2), Italy (1) and Japan (2). After much waiting the bus ferrying them arrived, as usual much later than the scheduled arrival time.

On hand to meet them were Members from our Club and Indera Mahkota, as well as the host families. After various pleasantries, the host families took the YEs back with them.

The YEs spent ten days in Kuantan with their host families. On their last day, Kuantan City and Indera Mahkota invited the YEs to their Joint-Installation Dinner at Restaurant Mexica.

Day of the Leos

The Club’s project for the month of August was the organisation of an Information Day for potential Leos on the 1st of August. The event was organised by Lions Karen Kwok, Wendy Yap and Philip Yen.

The event was held to provide information and better understanding on being a member of the Leos Club. This is to allow interested participants to gauge for themselves the positive values of joining the Leos Club and ultimately to graduate to the Lions Club level.

Various Members of our Club gave talks on the advantages of being a Leo.
The event saw the attendance of ten school students who were interested in setting up a Leos Club.

Visit to Rapha Home

The Lions Club of Kuantan City paid a visit to Rapha Home for under privileged children on Sunday 26th July. Rapha Home is home to 28 under privileged children.

Lion members plus their family members brought food and had lunch with the children. Afterwards fellow Lions spent time talking to the children. A good time was had by all especially the children who enjoyed the food brought by our Lion members.

The visit was attended by our Club President Lion Alice Chow and 5 members plus family members.
